JHU Biotech/Pharma Industry Mentor Match Program
Featuring CASSS Organization Members, Johns Hopkins Alumni, and PhD Career Professionals


Overview

The JHU Biotech/Pharma Industry Mentor Match Program offers Johns Hopkins PhD students and postdoctoral fellows the opportunity to select a mentor from a group of experienced professionals, composed of members from the CASSS organization, Johns Hopkins alumni, and other PhD career professionals. CASSS is a global community of biopharmaceutical industry, academic, and regulatory professionals.

The program aims to help PhD students and postdocs better understand the many types of careers available within industry, as well as how to successfully transition to a career of their choice. In addition, the program aims to provide participants with a meaningful network of industry professionals.

Eligibility Requirements

JHU MENTEE Eligibility

  • Applicants must be either a PhD student or a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Medicine, Bloomberg School of Public Health, Whiting School of Engineering, or Krieger School of Arts & Sciences
  • For those who are PhD students, priority will be given to those who are late-stage PhDs

MENTOR Eligibility and Professional Conduct

Eligibility – PhD professionals and CASSS members who fulfill the following criteria are eligible to participate in trainee mentoring programs: 1) Have attended a CASSS conference within the past three years (if a member of CASSS); 2) Are actively engaged in pharmaceutical development, production, regulation, or policy through employment in the industry, government, consulting, or academia; and 3) Are willing and able to be accessible to mentees and devote the time required by the program. Questions concerning program eligibility should be directed to the CASSS office.

Professional Conduct – PhD professionals CASSS members participating in trainee mentoring programs are expected to conduct themselves in accord with the culture of respect that characterizes CASSS conferences, the policy of conduct of their employer, and the applicable JHU policies governing faculty conduct with students.

We realize that not all mentoring relationships will be productive. If a mentor deems a mentoring relationship to be unsuccessful, they should inform both the trainee and the program organizers. CASSS reserves the right to remove a mentor from the program at any time and at the sole discretion of the CASSS mentoring advisory committee.

    • Brief JHU Biotech/Pharma Industry Mentor Match Application form (including a statement of interest)
    • Resume (tailored to reflect your career of interest; 3 pages max)
    • Up-to-date LinkedIn profile (we will review your online profile as a part of the application review process)

    Criteria for Selection
    We are looking for evidence of polished application materials (tailored resume, LinkedIn page), as well as thoughtful goals for the program and a desire to be actively engaged with a mentor.

    • Early March 2019: Application cycle opens for PhD Professionals and CASSS members
    • March 28, 2019: Deadline to apply
    • Early April: PhD Professionals and CASSS members will be notified of selection

    Criteria for Selection

    There are no selection criteria but it is expected that mentors would follow the Code of Conduct for their businesses as well as the JHU Code of Conduct.
